Here is a checklist of different lesson levels that can be used when observing lessons. It can be used in various ways – here are a few suggestions.
- Used by a line manager to observe a staff member for their performance review.
- Use in peer to peer observations where staff members buddy up and observe each other and share good practice.
- Individual teachers can use it themselves to plan an outstanding lesson. The sheets contain lots of suggestions of what we as teachers should be doing.
- At the end of an observation both the teacher and the observer can complete the checklist and then compare notes to see if they agree.
I find the layout of the checklist is easy to use and gets you into the way of thinking of an outstanding lesson.
So why don’t you print them out and keep them in the back of your planner.
